The design process is an ongoing journey that transforms ideas into practical, visually appealing, and structurally sound projects. It consists of several key stages, each requiring careful consideration, analysis, and collaboration. Here is a breakdown of our design process into these essential stages:
We can meet at our office or on-site to learn about you and your project goals. Whether it is a new build, renovation, or addition, we will ask questions to understand your timeline, needs, and preferences.
Please bring any relevant documents, like site plans or inspirational images, to help clarify your vision. We will also discuss key factors such as site conditions, zoning rules, and design challenges or opportunities.
You will have the chance to ask questions, and we will outline the following steps, including design phases, permits, deliverables, timelines, and costs. We aim to clarify the process and determine whether we're a good fit to work together.
Based on our consultation meeting, we will present the preliminary drawings and the feasibility study.
Preliminary Drawings
Preliminary drawings or initial sketches that convey the basic concept of a project, highlighting layout, size, and key design features without delving into details. They facilitate brainstorming, space planning, and exploration of design options before finalizing plans. Essentially, these drawings provide a project overview, allowing adjustments based on your feedback and goals.
Feasibility Study
A feasibility study is a thorough assessment to determine whether a project is practical and worth pursuing. It examines crucial factors like:
This study assesses the project's technical feasibility and identifies potential risks early, enabling us to address issues before design and construction.
We have updated the design plans based on feedback from the feasibility study. The exterior elevations and floor plans allow us to discuss minor changes. By the end of this meeting, we aim to finalize the design and proceed to the last phase.
The final construction drawings are now complete, with all necessary structural elements included. These have been thoroughly reviewed and explained in detail. You will be informed of any additional documentation you need to obtain—such as mechanical, electrical, or topographical materials—before you can submit your permit application. We have experienced collaborators ready to help you navigate these requirements. This completes the design process.
During the construction phase, we can schedule site visits to meet the specific requirements set by the building department, which may vary depending on the project and municipality. Additionally, we are always available to address any questions or concerns that arise.
We work closely with contractors to ensure the design is executed precisely while considering their preferences and insights.
